An interdisciplinary team led by Caltech's Wei Gao has created tiny bubble-like microrobots that can deliver therapeutics right where they are needed and then be absorbed by the body.
The article from EurekAlert! discusses a study published in the journal *Nature* by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), detailing the discovery of a new brain circuit that controls thirst. This circuit involves neurons in the hypothalamus that not only sense the body's hydration levels but also directly influence the sensation of thirst. The study found that these neurons can be activated or inhibited to respectively increase or decrease thirst, providing insights into how thirst is regulated at a neural level. This research could have implications for understanding and treating conditions related to fluid imbalance, such as diabetes insipidus, and might also inform strategies for hydration in health and disease.
