  • A Pabna court yesterday sent three people to jail over gang rape of a student of Pabna University of Science and Technology in Sadar upazila.

The article from The Daily Star reports that a court in Pabna, Bangladesh, sentenced three individuals to life imprisonment for the gang rape of a female student from Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST). The incident occurred on November 20, 2021, when the victim was attacked while returning to her dormitory. The convicts, identified as Md Al Amin, Md Firoz, and Md Ariful Islam, were also fined Tk 100,000 each. The court's decision came after the prosecution presented 13 witnesses, including the victim, and the defense failed to provide sufficient evidence to counter the charges. The case has drawn significant attention to issues of campus safety and the enforcement of justice in sexual assault cases in Bangladesh.
