Indian-origin PhD student at MIT suspended over pro-Palestinian activism, appeals university's decision

A PhD student in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is "now appealing the decision" to the Chancellor at MIT Wednesday, the "last opportunity to end this persecution and restore academic dignity.

Prahlad Iyengar, an Indian-origin PhD student at MIT, has been suspended for his involvement in pro-Palestinian activism on campus. Iyengar, who has appealed the university's decision, was part of a group of students who occupied a building to protest against what they perceive as MIT's complicity in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The suspension has sparked a debate about free speech and the right to protest on university campuses. Iyengar argues that his actions were a peaceful exercise of his rights, while MIT contends that the occupation violated university policies.
