  • U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that Micron Technology has finalized a $6.1 billion federal funding agreement through the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act to support the construction of a state-of-the-art memory chip facility in Central New York.
Micron Technology has been awarded $6.1 billion in funding from the CHIPS and Science Act to support the construction of a massive semiconductor manufacturing facility in Clay, New York, within the Central New York (CNY) region. This investment is part of a broader initiative to bolster domestic semiconductor production in the United States. The facility, which is expected to create thousands of jobs, will significantly enhance the local economy and contribute to national security by reducing reliance on foreign semiconductor supply chains. The project includes plans for two new fabrication plants, with the first plant set to begin production by 2026. This development not only marks a significant step in revitalizing the region but also aligns with the Biden administration's goals to advance U.S. technological leadership and innovation.
