TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.: TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. Issued U.S. Patent for Multi-Carrier Messaging Gateway
ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (
The patent describes a means for routing messages between carriers using a wireless internet gateway that can handle a variety of different message formats (such as SMS, MMS, e-mails and instant messaging) for each carrier through the use of a carrier format table. Messages are sent to the destination carrier using the appropriate protocol format of the receiving carrier. The invention allows for an easily configurable and changeable protocol format table to be updated as carriers are added and deleted and as protocols change.
"TCS has long recognized the role that would be needed for managing the broad range of messaging technologies," said Drew Morin, Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer for TCS. "We understood that the carrier's subscribers would want to send such messages to other wireless subscribers who use other carrier networks. TCS' invention, for which a patent application was filed in 2000, is well suited to the current market conditions where e-mail, text, multimedia, and instant messages are all being sent by wireless users from one carrier to other users on different carriers around the globe."
TCS now holds 70 patents with 212 applications pending.
