RCN Corporation: RCN Gives Arlington Mom and Sons a Hall of Fame Experience
BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - RCN Corporation (
"RCN was thrilled to send Laureen and her sons to Florida to see a Red Sox game and to meet Jim Rice," said Richard Wadman, SVP and General Manager of RCN Boston. "The trip was our way of saying thank you to our RCN fans, who, like Red Sox fans, are excited about this year's baseball season."
Laureen and her sons Michael, 8, and Matthew, 11, were flown to Florida and received two nights hotel accommodations, tickets to a Red Sox spring training game on Saturday, March 28 and had lunch with Jim Rice, all courtesy of RCN.
"My sons and I had such a great time on our mini-vacation and we will never forget it. We are all big Red Sox fans and also big RCN fans," said Glennon. "Lunch with Jim Rice was awesome and meeting him was the highlight of our weekend."
Glennon and her sons were also featured fans on NESN during the telecast of the Red Sox game that they attended.
Glennon recently signed up for RCN service and her name was automatically placed in the contest. Non RCN customers were also eligible to enter by mailing in postcards.
The RCN contest was initially intended for a winner and a guest, but when they contacted Glennon and heard that she was a single mother of two sons, they offered to accommodate all three of them on the spring training trip.
Jim Rice was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2009 on January 12, 2009. Rice spent his entire 16-year career -- 1974 through 1989 -- with the Boston Red Sox as one of the most feared hitters in baseball. Rice proved he was one of the best American League sluggers by receiving eight All-Star Selections and placing in the top five MVP balloting six times. He has remained closely involved with the Red Sox organization -- holding several coaching and commentator positions for New England Sports Network -- since ending his playing career in 1989. As a Hall of Famer, Rice will be remembered and revered among the great Red Sox and baseball players of all time.
Jim Rice is represented by Blue Sky Sports & Entertainment and any inquiries regarding Jim can be directed to Kim Zayotti at 617.951.3799.
