Avocent Corporation: Avocent to Show Interop 2009 Attendees How to Bring New ROI to Data Centers

HUNTSVILLE, AL--(Marketwire - May 18, 2009) - Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: [ AVCT ]), a global leader in [ IT Operations Management ], today announced it will play a major role in Interop, the leading global technology event, being held this week in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Avocent will launch a major new product that integrates data center and [ asset management ] with management of environmental conditions in the data center -- demonstrating the merging of IT and facilities. In addition, Avocent leaders will speak at key events at Interop, and the company will again be among the select companies whose products will interoperate to run the show network, or InteropNet. In the Booth

Avocent will be launching a powerful data center software offering called Avocent® MergePoint® [ Infrastructure Explorer ] -- which allows organizations to measure return on investment (ROI) on their data center expenditures by comparing before and after costs when a change is made to their data center configuration. It also allows IT to map out and model new efficiencies in "what if" scenarios that can help data center managers control costs. Offering an advanced user-friendly interface, paired with technology such as probes, intelligent power distribution units (IPDUs) and switches placed in the data center, Avocent MergePoint [ Infrastructure Explorer ] gives IT managers a real-time view of data center conditions and the ability to catalog, plan, track and define outcomes with capacity planning and [ asset management ]. LANDesk® Asset Lifecycle Manager, Avocent's DSView 3, and a full line-up of Avocent's offerings for IT operations management will also be shown.

Avocent CTO to Present at Interop

Avocent's CTO Ben Grimes will speak on "Managing the Merger of IT and Facilities" on Wednesday, May 20, from 11:15am to 12:00pm in the show floor sessions area at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Grimes will detail the many factors that are contributing to the convergence of facilities and IT, including power, cooling and virtualization -- all factors in data center design. The presentation will demonstrate how IT managers can move beyond diagrams and spreadsheets for managing merging infrastructures, including strategies and real-time tools required to assess, plan and manage complex data center configurations.

Energy Camp

Avocent will participate in the popular all-day Energy Camp sessions on Monday, May 18, at Interop. Avocent's Vice President of Data Center Strategies, C.C. Fridlin, will speak on a panel called "Going Green? What Can Your IT Solution Provider Do for You?" which will take place from 11:00am to 11:45am. The panel will also feature representatives from Cisco and Dell and will aim to help attendees better align business goals with goals for greener IT.

Avocent in the InteropNet

Avocent equipment will be showcased in the InteropNet where cutting-edge technologies interoperate in a live environment. This is Avocent's seventh consecutive year as part of the InteropNet, and the network will contain Avocent's MergePoint [ Infrastructure Explorer ], DSView 3 software and a number of DSR, HMX and ACS switches, as well as Avocent's intelligent power distribution units. Event attendees will be given tours of the InteropNet each exhibit floor day, starting at the network operations center (NOC). Tours are scheduled on Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm, and on Thursday, May 21, at 11:00am only. The InteropNet is the show backbone and offers high-speed networking services for exhibitors, conference rooms and attendees, offered by hand-selected, innovative vendors and volunteers, who come together to take on the ultimate networking challenge.
