Nine children (RCN's Starting 9) from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) took the field at Nationals Park during RCN Night. The children held the spots of the starting Nationals players and introduced themselves before the first pitch of the Nationals vs. New York Mets game. In addition, the children met the Nationals mascot, "Screech," and enjoyed watching the Nationals' three-one victory over the Mets.

RCN also provided each child with a T-shirt and baseball hat. "We want 'RCN's Starting 9' to have an extraordinary game night experience, and we hope Wednesday night's experience will become one of their favorite childhood memories," noted Richard Beville, RCN Vice President & General Manager-Washington, D.C.
Members of the Boys and Girls Club's Frank R. Jelleff Branch, the children (ages 5 - 14) were selected by their local Club as a reward for excelling at one of their Club's summer programs.
"Once again we partnered with RCN," said Pandit Wright, BGCGW President & CEO. "As was last year, this was a great opportunity for our Club members to attend a Nationals game. They had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take the field in a state-of-the-art ballpark and meet major league baseball players. It's opportunities like this which assist BGCGW in furthering its mission of helping boys and girls of all backgrounds to build confidence, develop character, and acquire skills that prepare them for school and for life as productive, civic-minded, and responsible adults."
As part of a partnership agreement with the Nationals, RCN received one title night with special benefits. "As the local hometown provider of all digital and high definition cable tv, high speed internet and phone services, we are very committed to giving back to the community in which we serve," explained Beville. "We believe that the special honor of being one of 'RCN's Starting 9' was one of the ways in which RCN could support BGCGW, a very important, community-based youth development organization in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area."
