SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - July 22, 2009) - Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ: [ MCRL ]), an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today launched the [ MIC2250 ], a high efficiency, low electromagnetic interference (EMI) step-up regulator. This boost regulator achieves up to 90 percent peak efficiency. At light loads as low as 1mA, the device still maintains an impressive 83 percent efficiency making it an ideal solution for Li-Ion battery powered systems. The solution supports an adjustable output voltage up to 32V and is packaged in a tiny 2mm x 2mm exposed pad MLF® with pricing starting at $0.56 for 1K quantities. Samples can now be ordered at: [ http://www.micrel.com/ProductList.do ].

"The [ MIC2250 ] delivers exceptional efficiency across an incredibly wide output current range from under 1mA to 300mA with output voltages up to 32V," noted Andy Khayat, Micrel's director of marketing for portable products. "Combined with the low EMI and an extremely small MLF® package, the device provides a worry free design with a compact solution."

An internal 900mA power switch allows the [ MIC2250 ] to produce up to 250mA of continuous output current at 15V from a 5V input supply. The MIC2250 features a user selectable dither mode to reduce peak switching EMI noise by as much as 10dB. Featuring an operating input supply range from 2.5V to 5.5V, the 2.5MHz [ MIC2250 ] is suitable for applications powered by single cell Li-Ion battery, 3.3VDC, or 5VDC power source. Output accuracy is an impressive +/- 3.0 percent. Additional features include under voltage lockout, soft start, and thermal shutdown.
