FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - July 20, 2009) - Ikanos Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ IKAN ]), a leading provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, today announced that Ubiquoss Corporation, a leading provider of communications equipment specializing in last-mile solutions, is using VDSL2 central office (CO) and customer premises equipment (CPE) chipsets from Ikanos in its Internet protocol digital subscriber line access multiplexers (IP DSLAMS). The Ikanos-based IP DSLAMs are being utilized by one of Korea's leading telecom providers in a fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) network deployment that will provide high-speed Internet services to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) across Korea.

VDSL2 technology enables delivery of high-speed broadband services to homes and offices in MDUs over existing copper network infrastructure. This hybrid fiber/copper network allows service providers to quickly and cost effectively offer revenue-enhancing triple play services, which include delivery of high-definition video, high-speed Internet data services and digital telephony.

"Ikanos' robust and low power VDSL2 chipsets deliver the industry's best performance and include a rich set of features that meet Korean service providers' stringent requirements," said S. B. Lee, director of research and development at Ubiquoss. "With the Ikanos technology, we were able to develop powerful access infrastructure equipment to support the evolving high-value broadband services that service providers plan on offering to their customers."

The eight-port line cards and 24-port IP DSLAMs being deployed include Ikanos' Fx™100100-5 and Fx™100100S-5 CO and CPE chipsets. The chipsets -- which are optimized for high-definition IPTV and triple play offerings -- support 100 Mbps symmetrical service and incorporate features such as integrated quality of service (QoS) capabilities and enhanced impulse noise protection (INP) schemes. These fifth-generation chipsets are designed to provide the highest throughput and density with the lowest per port power consumption, which results in high-density systems that reduce carriers' capital and operating expenditures.

"Ubiquoss is one of Korea's most innovative equipment manufacturers, developing access and intelligent networking products that will support interactive broadband services today and well into the future," said Mitch Kahn, vice president of corporate marketing for Ikanos. "We're delighted that Ubiquoss' Ikanos-based equipment has been selected by a leading Korean service provider, and that we continue to play a vital role in the deployment of a wide range of new revenue-generating broadband services across Korea."
