HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - XO Communications (OTCBB: [ XOHO ]) today announced that it is the Minority Corporate Council Association's (MCCA) 2009 Employer of Choice. The MCCA, a Washington, D.C.-based organization dedicated to the increased hiring, promotion and retention of minority legal professionals, recognized XO's legal department for its commitment to an inclusive workplace and ongoing emphasis on diversity.

The MCCA's Employer of Choice award honors industry leaders who successfully maintain a diverse legal department. The nominees are determined by a four-person selection committee who review and analyze each company's retention rates, hiring and promotion procedures, as well as other background about their legal departments.

"Our legal team is honored to be recognized among an elite group of corporate legal departments dedicated to fostering diversity within their companies," said Simone Wu, senior vice president and general counsel of XO Communications. "XO has attracted and retained some of the best corporate attorneys in telecommunications, and they have continually achieved positive results on behalf of the company."

As a leading broadband provider for businesses, carriers and government entities, XO's diverse legal team brings a depth of expertise on commercial, corporate, employment, litigation, ethics and intellectual property matters. XO's ability to hire, retain and develop the industry's brightest talent is a direct reflection of the company's commitment to creating opportunities for professional growth and success.

"XO Communications serves as a best practice example for the hiring and professional development of diverse attorneys," said Veta T. Richardson, executive director of the MCCA. "This award solidifies XO's understanding of the critical importance for diversity in the workplace, and we appreciate its continued support and commitment to this issue."

XO was presented with this award at the MCCA's Diversity Dinner in Washington, D.C. on June 16, 2009. The event and award are part of an ongoing series of five events focused on the issues of diversity in corporate law departments. MCCA Diversity Dinners are also held in Chicago, Dallas, New York City and San Francisco.
