HERNDON, VA--(Marketwire - March 11, 2009) - XO Communications (OTCBB: [ XOHO ]) today announced that it is providing DCANet, one of the oldest, continuously operating Internet service providers (ISPs) in the greater Philadelphia area, with Ethernet over Copper services. The deployment, launched this week, is an upgrade to the T-1 transport service provided to DCANet by XO since 2006 and will enable the company to offer customers access to high-speed, dedicated Internet access. By combining XO's proven Ethernet capabilities with DCANet's proactive monitoring and support, customers will have access to high-quality, high-capacity bandwidth while avoiding the costly and time-consuming process of laying fiber to connect their locations.

"The majority of our customers aren't tied into fiber networks, so leveraging existing copper lines to deliver high-speed Internet access was a natural choice," said Keith Duncan, Ph.D., president and CEO of DCANet. "XO had already proven its commitment to high-level service and offered the perfect option for Ethernet access, so our choice of where to turn was simple."

Through the agreement, XO is providing DCANet with Ethernet access speeds starting at 5 Mbps, with the capability to increase to 20 Mbps -- a significant jump for customers only able to access the limited 1.54 Mbps speed associated with the T-1 service. The end result will enable businesses to more quickly and effectively download and share data-intensive, latency-sensitive files across the Internet.

"Over the years, XO has taken care to ensure that the offerings we develop and package match the needs of our varied customer base," said Don MacNeil, vice president of XO Carrier Services Sales Operations. "Our Ethernet over Copper products afford carriers a cost-effective, high-quality option for faster Internet connections for their customers. We're pleased that DCANet has chosen us once again to be their network provider."

XO Communications has become an industry leader in expanding the availability of Ethernet services to carriers through its utilization of Ethernet over Copper technology. The company recently expanded its Ethernet over Copper services footprint by 18 percent and now has deployments in 75 major metropolitan markets, enabling XO to utilize metro copper loops to serve non fiber-fed businesses with Ethernet services at speeds from 5 to 88 Mbps.
