Zarlink Semiconductor Inc.: Zarlink's Products Complement Cavium Networks OCTEON II Processors to Enable Triple Play Services O
OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - Zarlink Semiconductor Inc. (TSX:ZL) today announced its expanded VE880 VoicePortTM Series, and recently introduced Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and Timing over Packet (ToP) solutions, complement new processor technology from Cavium Networks (NASDAQ:CAVM). These technologies provide equipment manufacturers with a comprehensive product set that easily enables high-quality and secure voice, data and video services over next-generation packet networks.
Already in use by carriers worldwide, Zarlink's products are being actively designed into broadband routers, gateways and wireless base station equipment as part of the continuing deployment of advanced communication infrastructure.
"The increasing demand from carriers for power-efficient technologies that help deliver new services to consumers represents a significant growth opportunity for our products," said Hank Perret, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Zarlink's Communication Products Group. "Zarlink and Cavium are providing equipment manufacturers with high-performance, easy-to-integrate products that deliver the critical timing and processing expertise required to enable high-quality voice, data and video services over next-generation networks."
Complementary voice and timing solutions from Zarlink
The latest addition to the successful VE880 VoicePort Series, the dual channel VE8820 is an extremely power efficient analog telephony chipset that provides equipment designers with an easy, cost-effective approach to add voice to broadband connections. In addition, the chipset enables operators to conduct extensive remote line test diagnostics.
Zarlink's voice expertise is complemented by its market-leading portfolio of timing products for traditional and packet networks, including the industry's first single-chip SyncE, ToP and integrated SyncE and ToP (IEEE 1588) solutions. The company's highly integrated timing solutions help manufacturers meet strict standards requirements, while reducing bill-of-material costs, board space and power requirements versus competing multi-chip offerings.
"Cavium Networks works with an extensive ecosystem of world-class partners to deliver complementary products that help reduce time-to-market and development costs for our customers," said YJ Kim, Senior Director, Embedded Processor Group at Cavium Networks. "Zarlink's voice and timing expertise, combined with our new OCTEON II processor, offers equipment manufacturers a compelling platform that allows them to respond quickly to the increasing demand for new solutions to enable reliable, cost-effective services over packet networks."
The Cavium Networks next-generation OCTEON II Internet Application Processor (IAP) family is designed for the next generation of hypernetworks serving enterprise, data center, access and service provider markets which require support for converged data, voice and video. The OCTEON II target applications include switches, routers, appliances, equipment for 3G, WiMAX, long-term evolution (LTE), wireless local area network (LAN), and unified storage systems and adapters.
