BURLINGTON, Mass.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--iBasis, Inc. (NASDAQ: IBAS), a KPN affiliate, today announced that Corporación Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT), a new national fixed-line Ecuadorian carrier that was formed by the merger of Pacifictel and Andinatel in November 2008, has connected to The iBasis Network for both termination and origination of international calls.

The IP-interconnect with iBasis enables CNT to take advantage of the greater cost-efficiencies resulting from iBasis' global scale and VoIP infrastructure while delivering high quality, lower cost international calling to their customers in Ecuador. The connection also provides iBasis with reliable high quality termination capacity in Ecuador for its wholesale and consumer customers around the world. The relationship with CNT enhances iBasis' strong position in Latin America, one of the world's most rapidly developing telecommunications markets. Consumers of iBasis' retail prepaid calling services, including calling cards and the Pingo® web-based service ([ www.pingo.com ] and [ www.pingobusiness.com ]), will also benefit from the agreement with CNT.

CNT joins more than 1,000 carrier customers from all segments of telecom that use iBasis for all or part of their international voice service. With 1.7 million customers, CNT is one of the leading fixed-line telecommunications providers in Ecuador. According to researchers at Telegeography, Ecuador has become the fourth fastest-growing telecom market in the world for outbound calling minutes, experiencing 265 percent outbound traffic growth from 2001 to 2006.

"South America is one of the fastest growing telecommunications markets in the world, and a region in which iBasis has a very strong presence," said Ofer Gneezy, president and CEO of iBasis. "This IP interconnect with CNT significantly expands iBasis' capacity to carry international calls both to and from Ecuador, a key market in this important region."
