ACS Helps the State of Ohio Offer Paperless Benefits
DALLAS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. ] (NYSE: ACS) is enabling the state of Ohio to save money, reduce paper and offer its citizens a convenient and safe method of receiving state benefits with the introduction of the EPPICard, the company's innovative electronic payment card (EPC) solution.
The [ Ohio Department of Job and Family Services ] is adopting EPC as an additional option to distribute benefits to recipients of cash assistance programs including Ohio Works First, which provides assistance to people working towards self-sufficiency. The Ohio EPPICard is a prepaid MasterCard-branded debit card that can be used at member banks, retailers and ATMs. In August 2009, paper distribution of program benefits will begin to be phased out.
The use of EPC for government benefits and payments is an innovation pioneered by ACS, which manages 20 programs for state and federal clients. An EPC solution saves agencies money over traditional benefit checks and eliminates lost or stolen checks. Cardholders gain faster and secure access to funds, as well as the convenience and ease-of-use that a debit card provides.
The state of Ohio has also relied on ACS for EPC distribution of child support benefits for nearly five years.
"By moving to electronic payment cards, the state of Ohio has shown that it is committed to using the most effective method available to deliver state benefits," said Nancy Collins, senior vice president and managing director of ACS Government Constituent Services. "We appreciate the confidence that the state has in ACS to provide such an important program to its citizens."
