Alcatel-Lucent Selects NetLogic Microsystems? Industry-Leading NL71024XT Processors for Terabit IP Service Router Portfolio
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETL), the leader in the design and development of knowledge-based processors and high-speed integrated circuits, today announced that Alcatel-Lucent, a leader in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking solutions, has selected its NL71024XT device for Alcatel-Lucent's Terabit IP Service Router portfolio. The Terabit upgrades to the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch deliver the performance, scale and service awareness required to support the growing market for more personalized, broadband offerings such as IPTV, WebTV, Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and 3G/4G mobile services.
NetLogic Microsystems' NL71024XT device has been developed in close collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent's distinguished R&D team, and has been optimized for Alcatel-Lucent's award-winning FP2 network processor and traffic manager. The FP2 state-of-the-art silicon was internally developed by Alcatel-Lucent and provides sophisticated traffic management and network processing at speeds up to 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) at significantly improved power efficiency. As leading service providers worldwide upgrade their fixed and mobile networks to manage the growing demand for higher bandwidth, increased availability and expanded service mix, Alcatel-Lucent's Terabit Service Router portfolio, incorporating the FP2, delivers more speed, more services and more availability while reducing CAPEX and OPEX. Alcatel-Lucent's Service Router portfolio currently has an installed base of over 200 service provider customers in more than 90 countries.
To complement the superior performance of the FP2 network processor and traffic manager, Alcatel-Lucent has selected NetLogic Microsystems' industry-leading NL71024XT device to accelerate high-speed packet inspection and IPv6 processing functions to enable quality-of-service (QoS), ACL security, video/voice forwarding, billing and VPN at line rate while maximizing energy efficiency of the overall system. The massively parallel NL71024XT device features an advanced superscalar architecture with deep pipelining and delivers 300% higher IPv6 performance and 200% larger database capacity over competing solutions.
The close working relationship between NetLogic Microsystems' and Alcatel-Lucent's R&D teams has enabled the companies to further innovate and optimize their respective silicon for higher performance, seamless interconnectivity and lower power consumption. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent can cluster up to four NL71024XT devices for each FP2 network processor to expand the database capacity.
"The new Terabit Service Router portfolio upgrades that incorporate our award-winning FP2 silicon raise the bar of innovation for the industry by delivering rich services with enhanced availability and application assurance," said Kevin Macaluso, General Manager and Vice President, Service Router Product Group at Alcatel-Lucent. "We selected NetLogic Microsystems' NL71024XT device due to its superior parallel processing performance, especially for IPv6 packets, and its unmatched database capacity. Additionally, NetLogic Microsystems' commitment to innovation and quality, along with its strong market momentum and roadmap execution, make NetLogic Microsystems a logical silicon partner for us."
"We're excited to strengthen our relationship with Alcatel-Lucent, and to have been selected for its next-generation Terabit Service Router portfolio," said Ron Jankov, president and chief executive officer at NetLogic Microsystems. "Alcatel-Lucent's revolutionary FP2 silicon is driving IP routing performance and scalable services to new levels, and the selection of NetLogic Microsystems for this leading-edge portfolio is a testament of our market and technology leadership in high-speed, low-power knowledge-based processing."
