ORLANDO, Fla.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) – Concurrent (Nasdaq: CCUR), a worldwide leader in real-time Linux®-based computing technologies, today announced a new version of its popular RedHawk Linux real-time operating system, RedHawk version 5.2. Industry leading companies around the globe rely on Concurrent RedHawk Linux for predictable, consistent microsecond response in time-critical applications. The upgraded RedHawk Linux provides features such as the Precision Time Protocol standard and improved application performance on Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA) platforms.

Precision Time Protocol (PTP) is an IEEE time-transfer standard that provides for very precise synchronization of multiple systems on a network. Using Concurrent's high-quality clock, RedHawk Linux PTP support can provide accuracy in the tens of microseconds without the need for costly special networking hardware. Applications that require such precision include engine test, simulation and control systems prevalent within the aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial control and telecommunications industries.

"Concurrent continues to innovate with technologies and top quality service for real-time computing excellence - it's in our DNA," said Jim Brickmeier, vice president, Product Line Management, Concurrent. "With the newly upgraded RedHawk, we're offering customers a feature-rich, open-source foundation to achieve maximum value from their technology investment."

Concurrent's RedHawk Linux is deployed in thousands of installations worldwide supporting a range of time-critical applications where low-latency and highly deterministic response is required. RedHawk supports applications such as weapons systems, engine test stands, flight simulators, vehicle simulators, flight crew trainers, image generators, MRI medical systems, process control and video-on-demand systems. RedHawk Linux is relied upon in major military defense programs worldwide including the U.S. Navy Aegis Open Architecture (AOA) CR2 program.

Keeping with Concurrent's commitment as a provider of real-time Linux-based technologies while tracking industry standards, the updated RedHawk Linux v5.2 delivers:

  • an enhanced industry standard Linux kernel (2.6.26);
  • Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 5.2 compatibility for developer productivity and application portability;
  • the latest Intel and AMD® processor and chipset support for more computing power in smaller, more cost-effective, energy efficient packages;
  • the latest NVIDIA® graphics drivers to achieve maximum determinism during image rendering;
  • improved memory shielding support for application throughput and determinism on Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA) platforms;
  • enhanced Concurrent NightStar tools for highly scalable (32 or more cores) real-time Linux debugging and tuning.

RedHawk Linux is included with all Concurrent iHawk™ real-time multiprocessors, ImaGen™ visual servers, MediaHawk™ Content Delivery Systems and is also available as a software-only product.

Concurrent is showcasing RedHawk Linux technology at this year's I/ITSEC show in Orlando, Florida, Dec. 1-4, booth # 3501. The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) promotes cooperation among the Armed Services, Industry, Academia and various Government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs, identification of common training issues and development of multi-service programs.
