ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - July 16, 2009) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: [ TSYS ]), a leading provider of mission-critical wireless communications, today announced that it was awarded a $1.2 million contract by the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) to convert its analog broadcast network to digital format. TCS will provide satellite communications and broadcasting equipment which will enable OETA to upgrade their network broadcasts to the international digital DVB-S2 standard, including high definition transmission.

In addition to a 6.3 meter satellite antenna and associated electronics equipment, TCS will provide installation, integration and testing services to OETA. The contract also includes optional items that will further enhance OETA's ability to fulfill its mission of providing educational television programming throughout the state of Oklahoma. More importantly, this upgrade will fulfill the U.S. Government's requirement to transition to digital television transmission.

"TCS is delighted to assist OETA in its transition from analog to digital," said Michael Bristol, senior vice president of government solutions for TCS. "This foray into the educational market segment provides us a great opportunity to expand the scope of our VSAT offerings beyond our traditional government base."

The TCS SwiftLink Satellite Access Baseband remote (SABR) systems provide multimedia communications capabilities, which convey encrypted voice, video and imagery data. TCS SwiftLink products are highly transportable and ruggedized, with a graphical user interface that facilitates easy set-up and operation.
