SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2009) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: [ RVBD ]), the IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, today announced the successful deployment of Riverbed® Steelhead® WAN Optimization appliances by the Republic of Korea Navy. By implementing the Riverbed solution, the South Korean Navy has improved naval command and control via increased satellite bandwidth speeds of over 5X, in the process helping to satisfy military requirements for rapid, secure and reliable communications.

Prior to using Riverbed WAN optimization technology, transmission delays, which are commonplace with satellite communications, caused the Korea Navy to frequently experience suboptimal messaging delays while at sea. In the continual search for improving command and control, the Korean Navy sought advanced WAN optimization technologies that could accelerate satellite communications and therefore enhance mission success. Commented the IT Manager for the Republic of Korea Navy at its headquarter office located in Daejeon Metropolitan City in Korea, "192Kbps throughput of WAN bandwidth became effectively 1Mbps after we installed the Steelhead appliances. We experienced a performance improvement of over 5X, which has improved our ability to carry out our daily operations on board the vessel."

"Riverbed Steelhead products have been deployed in many large-scale enterprise and government agency networks. It's a proven and cost-effective solution, whether for small deployments or multi-site deployments involving hundreds of Steelhead appliances. The Republic of Korea Navy is a good example of what our award-winning solution can offer to organizations looking to deliver mission-critical information over slow satellite networks," commented Jay Kim, country manager, Riverbed Korea.
