Ericsson North America: Ericsson Federal to Showcase Last Mile Communications at Annual Empire Challenge Interoperability Demon
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - July 8, 2009) - Ericsson Federal Inc. (EFI) will participate in the 2009 Empire Challenge, the premier Joint/Coalition Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance interoperability exercise in the Department of Defense. EFI will exhibit its 3G tactical network, QuicLINK, at both China Lake Naval Air and Weapons Center in California, and Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.
QuicLINK provides all of the components for a 3G wireless network to deliver high-speed voice, video and data, and can be deployed in support of multi-domain tactical environments. At Empire Challenge it will be deployed at the tactical operations center, aboard aircraft, watercraft and with tactical operations vehicles.
"Empire Challenge provides EFI the opportunity to showcase our leading-edge technology to the U.S. government and coalition partners who will be participating in and observing the event," said Doug Smith, EFI president and chief executive officer. "We understand the need for secure and effective broadband communications to the tactical edge to ensure full situational awareness in real-time. We are excited to demonstrate what is possible."
At Empire Challenge EFI will deploy a tactical network solution that includes the QuicLINK 3G cellular broadband network and IP multimedia services for collaboration between operators on the network, while providing tactical data to exercise wide area networks. The 3G network is essential for collecting and distributing full motion video, imagery and data during the exercise. Through the integration of IP multimedia services into a situational awareness environment, EFI can provide location knowledge of tactical users, voice, text chat, video calling and map-based white board collaboration for communications between the tactical edge and the tactical operations centers.
Empire Challenge is a Joint/Combined Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance event sponsored by U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) in an effort to develop and integrate joint, interagency and multinational capabilities to meet both present and future operational needs of USJFCOM. Empire Challenge takes place annually in July with the 2009 exercise focusing on providing solutions to challenges in the areas of battlespace awareness, data sharing and tactical interoperability.
