PureSpectrum, Inc. : PureSpectrum, Inc. Poised to Capitalize on Multibillion Dollar Commercial Lighting Retrofit Market

SAVANNAH, GA--(Marketwire - May 22, 2009) - PureSpectrum, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: [ PSPM ]) met with several key members of the electrical distribution industry during the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) leadership conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and continued to position the company to capitalize on the rapidly growing retrofit market for commercial lighting.

As the urgency of achieving increased energy efficiency continues to play a more important role in the commercial and industrial sector and as new energy efficiency requirements are introduced, lighting has been identified as one of the fastest pathways to energy conservation and carbon footprint reduction. Linear fluorescent fixtures are the most prevalent lighting application for the commercial and industrial sector, and the majority of linear fluorescent fixtures are still governed by inefficient, undependable magnetic ballasts.

Retrofitting linear fluorescent fixtures with energy efficient electronic ballasts is expected to be a $100 billion market during the next five years, and PureSpectrum's high performance, affordable dimmable ballast for linear fluorescent lighting will enable the company to aggressively pursue Energy Service Companies (ESCO) and energy consulting groups that provide products and services to the commercial and industrial sectors. More than 80 percent of United States businesses occupy buildings that are at least 20 years old, outfitted with antiquated and inefficient lighting systems. PureSpectrum's energy efficient and dimmable advanced ballast technology for linear fluorescent lighting can be implemented cost effectively and that affordability will provide the company with a distinct competitive advantage in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

During the past year, Light Emitting Diode (LED) systems have been proposed as a possible replacement for the linear fluorescent fixture in commercial and industrial applications. But a January 2009 U.S. Department of Energy report found that LED lighting systems do not provide enough light output for commercial and industrial retrofits and concluded that LED lighting is not sufficiently developed to replace linear fluorescent lighting for general interior lighting.

One of the primary performance limitations for LED lighting systems and existing dimming technology for linear fluorescent lighting is reliable, cost effective dimming capability, considered the gateway to green lighting strategies such as daylight harvesting and other sensor systems that automatically dim lights to decrease energy usage during off-peak times. Reliable dimming technology for LED lighting has yet to be developed and the high cost of currently available dimmable ballasts for linear fluorescent lighting has made the adoption of sophisticated green lighting strategies cost prohibitive. But PureSpectrum's patent pending ballast solutions and wireless lighting control system drastically decreases the cost to retrofit lighting systems and substantially shortens the return on investment period for retrofitting a building's lighting system to be energy efficient and dimmable.

"There is a virtually inexhaustible market of small, medium and large buildings as well as commercial real estate owners and management firms that can provide PureSpectrum with a consistent revenue stream opportunity during the next few years and beyond," said PureSpectrum Vice President of Sales Garth Kullman after attending the NAED leadership conference. "Because we can offer a cost effective, energy saving lighting solution, we are approaching this market with unique benefits that the rest of the lighting industry is not offering."
