ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwire - June 3, 2009) - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: [ TSYS ]), a leading provider of wireless communications technology, today announced that Technology Marketing Corporation's (TMC) Internet Telephony magazine named TCS' Xypoint® Location Platform (XLP) a recipient of the 2009 WiMAX Distinction Award. TCS's XLP enables wireless carrier customers to have precise, advanced location-based capabilities in an open, scalable and reliable platform. The technology supports network-based solutions and enables mobile operating partners to offer enhanced location data services to their customers.

TCS' XLP collects global positioning system (GPS) locations from laptops, which use Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) software over the WiMAX network. A web-based location tracking application regularly queries the XLP and displays the mobile device's position on a map. The SUPL-enabled tool and technology can easily be transferred to locate fixed wireless, portable and mobile WiMAX end user devices, including personal digital assistants (PDAs) and smart devices.

"TCS software and services leverage the intelligence in the carrier's core network to deliver a cost-effective offering that is proven, profitable and precise," said Drew Morin, Chief Technology Officer of TCS. "We currently support more than 100 million U.S. E9-1-1 and commercial subscribers with our Xypoint Location Platform, and plan to continue to help our partners differentiate themselves from the competition with these solutions. This award further validates our position within the WiMAX community as a thought leader and innovator."

"TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. was named a winner of the 2009 WiMAX Distinction Award for their accomplishments in the advancement of WiMAX solutions," said Rich Tehrani, TMC President and Group Editor-in-Chief of Internet Telephony. "TCS' Xypoint Location Platform has proven it has made advancements in the bourgeoning WiMAX marketplace while providing its customers with solutions to help grow their business."
