ACS Extends Partnership with Hawaii to Support Medicaid Program
DALLAS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. ] (NYSE: ACS) today announced a $21 million, 18-month contract renewal with the Hawaii Department of Human Services to provide fiscal agent services, as well as services related to processing pharmacy and non-pharmacy claims for Hawaii Medical Assistance Programs.
As part of the contract, ACS will deploy its [ electronic health record ] tool (DirectAccessEHR) to aid Hawaiian health care providers and payers improve the delivery of quality healthcare, increase efficiency, and support safety.

ACS has provided fiscal agent services for the state's Medicaid program since 2002, and delivered pharmacy services since 2001. This recent contract is the result of a re-bid for Hawaii's Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) and Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) and for the first time, consolidates the two programs into a single contract. Additionally, the contract includes two, one-year options.
The deployment of ACS' electronic health record product was funded in part by the State of Hawaii's transformation grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
As part of the new contract, ACS will continue to provide Fiscal Agent Operations services for medical claims processing for the Hawaii Medicaid Fee-For-Service population. These services include claims processing,Prior Authorization processing, call center, mailroom, provider education, EDI support, banking operations and Third Party recovery efforts. The MMIS is operated remotely by the State of Arizona, and therefore, systems support is not provided on-site by ACS.
Additionally, ACS will continue to provide full PBM services including claims processing, system maintenance and modification, drug rebate, clinical consultation and call center operations.
