Thu, July 23, 2009 Black Duck Software: New Subscriptions, Licenses Propel Q2 Growth for Black Duck Software
WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwire - July 23, 2009) - The second quarter of 2009 saw continued top-line bookings growth for Black Duck Software, the company reported today. A 53% Q2 rise in new subscriptions followed strong Q1 bookings to fuel the company's continued sequential-quarter growth. Black Duck Software is the leading global provider of products and services for accelerating software development through the managed use of open source software.
The jump in new subscriptions and [ licenses ] is evidence of renewed traction in the market and reflects a growing need for the company's products and services. The rise in bookings came despite sluggishness in the overall economy and M&A market activity. Additionally, in the first half of 2009 the company signed new enterprise accounts including Yahoo!, Alcatel-Lucent, and Orga.
Black Duck continues to benefit from growing awareness of the importance and benefits of multi-source development, in which software developers and enterprises combine open source code with in-house developed code, and many times augmented by commercial products and/or outsourced development. Black Duck products and services help companies manage the use of open source code at enterprise scale.
Accomplishments for the first half of 2009:
-- Introduces and ships the [ Black Duck Suite ], a comprehensive management platform that provides new levels of automation and efficiency for software development organizations using open source components at significant scale for software development.
-- Automates addition of CodePlex projects into [ KnowledgeBase ] and Koders.com. Black Duck announced an agreement with Microsoft Corporation (
-- Creation of Japanese Subsidiary and new international expansion. In addition to maintaining international offices in Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Paris, the company opened a Japanese subsidiary and Tokyo office to further serve channel partners and customers in the Asia-Pacific region.
-- Black Duck Software again named to SD Times 100. Honored for the second year running, Black Duck achieved recognition in the Tools and IDE categories. The company was chosen by SD Times editors as one of a select group of companies that "set the agenda" for software development managers and the industry through leadership and innovation.
-- Black Duck named a voke Innovator. Independent analyst firm voke cited the company for its role helping developers to use open source code throughout the software lifecycle.
-- New customer growth. The company added 22 new customers to its roster in Q2, ending the quarter with 662 customers. New customers reflect particular strength in the software, storage and communications sectors.
-- Continued enhancements to Koders.com. Black Duck's open source code search site, continued to increase in size to 2.4 billion lines of code governed by open source and other licenses.
-- Continues to build management team with addition of Timothy Yeaton, CEO; Philip Odence, VP of business development, and Jeffrey Durand, VP of professional services.
