WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - February 16, 2009) - Micrel Inc., (NASDAQ: [ MCRL ]), an industry leader in IC analog, high bandwidth and Ethernet solutions, today announced, as part of the Company's corporate wide 'green product initiative,' that it will be showcasing the industry's newest and most innovative green power analog IC solutions at the annual 2009 APEC (Applied Power Electronics Conference) trade show. As part of the Company's on-going commitment to green, low power solutions, Micrel is rolling out the [ MICRF219 ], ultra low-power, 300MHz to 450MHz, super-heterodyne, image-reject, RF receiver with OOK/ASK demodulator. The device sets a new standard for low-power receivers by consuming just 12mW of power (4.0mA from 3.0V at 315MHz) during continuous receive operation, making it ideal for remote keyless entry devices. A low-power shutdown mode reduces power consumption to 1.5uW. The device is available in volume quantities with pricing starting at $1.62 for 10,000 quantities. Samples can now be ordered on line on Micrel's web site at: [ http://www.micrel.com/ProductList.do ].

"The RF market continues to expand globally with innovative and power sensitive applications deploying RF technology," stated John Lee, director of mixed-signal and RF products, Micrel. "Micrel's new RF receiver offers a user programmable Auto-Polling feature that also allows power consumption to be reduced to under 0.5mW while allowing the receiver to awake and poll for valid bits before awaking the microcontroller. This feature dramatically saves power, making it the ideal choice for power and cost conscious designers."

The [ MICRF219 ] offers -110dBm receive sensitivity at a data rate of 1kbps (Manchester encoded) greatly extending operating range. It only requires a crystal and a minimum number of external components to implement. It is ideal for low-cost, low-power, RKE, TPMS, and remote actuation applications. The device also employs an optional Squelch feature which disables the data output until valid bits are detected, allowing the microcontroller to remain in low-power shutdown mode until valid bits are detected. The Desense feature allows sensitivity to be reduced 6 to 42dB -- helpful while training the receiver to recognize only desired transmitters, and isolating the receiver from distantly placed, undesired transmitters. Auto-Polling feature also allows power consumption to be reduced to under 0.5mW while allowing the receiver to awake and poll for valid bits before awaking the microcontroller, thus dramatically saving power.
