Riverbed Technology: IMC Selects Riverbed to Accelerate Application Performance Across MPLS Network
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 12, 2009) - Riverbed Technology (
IMC, which has 3,500 employees across 16 different brands, was formed following Advent International's acquisition of Frango Assado, the leading operator of highway restaurants in Brazil. In addition to the Frango Assado properties, IMC holdings also include Viena, Brazil's leading quick-casual and casual dining restaurant chain; Grupo RA, the No. 1 operator of restaurant concessions in Brazil's main airports; La Mansión, a leading casual dining restaurant group in Mexico; Champs Elysées, a Mexican operator of French restaurants and bistros; and IMC Caribe (formerly Airport Shoppes), the leading airport restaurant and in-flight catering group in Puerto Rico.
IMC worked in partnership with Servix, a Brazilian provider of IT solutions, to deploy seven Steelhead appliances at locations across Brazil. Following deployment of the appliances in August 2008, application performance across IMC's wide area network (WAN) has improved by up to 400%.
IMC's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) WAN connects the offices and the stores at Congonhas, Guarulhos (SP), Confins (MG), and Salgado Filho (RS) airports, an administrative unit in Rio de Janeiro, and other units of the group of Viena restaurants. "It is a very broad geography. Employees at these distributed sites share critical applications that are deployed centrally, including our financial ERP, which experiences access peaks during the monthly accounting closing period. Other centrally located applications that are part of our daily operations include email and access to our Intranet and Internet server," explains Marcos Roberto Pasin, CIO at IMC.
According to Pasin, the faster access to critical applications provided by Riverbed has improved both employee productivity and user satisfaction. "WAN optimization from Riverbed provided benefits across our organization, from improving IMC business processes and productivity to end user satisfaction," added Pasin.
IMC expects an ROI of 15 months on its investment with Riverbed. IMC considered adding additional expensive bandwidth to address its performance issues; however, this approach would have required a monthly investment, plus the link lease, with no guarantee of better network performance. Additional bandwidth capacity would enable the transportation of more data, but would not address the underlying network and application issues that slow application performance over the WAN.
Steelhead Products
Riverbed solutions enable organizations of all sizes to overcome a host of severe problems, including poor application performance and insufficient bandwidth at remote sites. By speeding the performance of applications between data centers, remote offices and mobile workers by five to 50 times and in some cases up to 100 times, the Riverbed award-winning Steelhead products enable companies to consolidate IT, improve backup and replication processes to ensure data integrity, and improve staff productivity and collaboration. Steelhead products have been deployed in organizations ranging from the world's largest corporations with offices around the globe to small companies with a couple of sites that are just miles apart.
