BigBand Enhances Industry Leading Broadcast Video Platform
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced enhancements to its widely deployed Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR®) software. New features include unified broadcast service support to significantly enhance the platform's capabilities for international markets and resolution for a key closed-captioning challenge faced by a number of cable operators preparing for the February 2009 digital television transition.
"Providing a highly reliable service delivery network at a low total cost of ownership is essential to supporting our international growth initiative," said Biren Sood, vice president of marketing and business development, BigBand Networks. "The BMR sits in the heart of our customers' networks. These recent innovations address our customers' need for improved operations, reliable networking and video processing capabilities, and overall CapEx and OpEx efficiencies."
The new BMR software release converges the Broadcast Video Services (BVS) and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) software lines into a single offering designed to improve operational efficiency. Operators outside of North America now have access to a robust set of features previously deployed by North American customers that translates to higher density and improved media processing densities for core BMR functions. Additionally, BigBand's new BMR software resolves a closed-captioning challenge that impacts cable operators with older set-top box deployments as they prepare for the digital transition deadline.
The BigBand BMR1200® is a robust platform designed from the ground up to be carrier-class and offer five 9's availability. It is field-proven, having been deployed by over 200 service providers worldwide, in over 4,000 installations. It is designed to support a variety of applications including digital simulcast, digital TV management, digital ad insertion, HDTV and switched digital video. Offering a rich array of bandwidth management functionality, it can help speed the migration from broadcast to content personalization.
