SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - December 22, 2008) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: [ RVBD ]) the technology and market leader in WAN optimization, today announced that Centro Universitário UNA (UNA) has deployed Riverbed® solutions at locations across the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Deployment of the Steelhead® appliances has allowed UNA to improve the performance of critical applications by up to 10 times, improving the productivity of employees, instructors and students.

UNA is a higher education institution located in the state of Minas Gerais. Currently, the university has over 14,000 students and approximately 2,000 employees across eight campuses. Over the last four years, the institution has experienced strong growth, which has demanded IT investments meet the needs of distributed employees, students and instructors. WAN optimization through Riverbed was one of these investments.

As part of a project implemented by Triple A IT, experts in Information Technology services, Riverbed Steelhead appliances were installed to improve application performance over the UNA wide area network (WAN).

According to Hugo Aguiar, infrastructure manager, UNA, one of the critical applications for the university center was the financial management system, which improved significantly following installation of the Riverbed solutions. "In recent measurements, we saw that application performance over the network is 10 times faster than before," he explains. The project was implemented in just one month, with ROI estimated to be one year.

Other internal applications have also benefited from the Riverbed deployment, including Sala Virtual, a virtual classroom application for file exchange between teachers and students. In addition, regularly used applications such as Windows and critical antivirus updates have also been optimized.

"The advantages of the Riverbed solutions also include features such as simple installation and management as well as connection redundancy and better network security," said Aguiar. In addition, the detailed reports generated by the Riverbed management console have greatly simplified WAN management.
