SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - June 2, 2009) - Bruce Roberts, senior vice president of Security Programs for Cubic Corporation (
Based in San Diego, The Security Network® promotes rapid commercialization of dual-use military-commercial security technologies from around the world. Cubic's involvement in The Security Network is through Cubic Security Systems, Inc. (CSi), a Cubic subsidiary which develops effective and cost-efficient solutions for the homeland security market. CSi's current emphasis is on integrating radiation detection technology into public transportation in North America, and it is also developing technologies for the aviation and maritime markets.
The Security Network's first Chairman's Awards recognized individuals at the highest level of accomplishment in their professions. Shortly after the September 11 terrorist attacks, Roberts and others proposed and established an organization to bring together San Diego's defense, commercial and academic communities to address homeland security issues. This initial effort later led to The Security Network. Through his participation in the San Diego Regional Economic Development Council, Roberts has backed efforts to develop information assurance and maritime security technologies as key capabilities for the San Diego region. His efforts have included working with UC San Diego to set up an information assurance academic program there.
Michael B. Jones, Chairman and CEO of The Security Network, remarked: "Bruce Roberts has been instrumental in promoting and demonstrating how companies from around the world can benefit from participation with The Security Network. From meeting with companies domestically and abroad to search for new technologies, to finding innovative companies that are relevant for Cubic and its clients, Bruce's efforts to nurture collaboration have resulted in important domestic and cross-border technology agreements and business opportunities."
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, who attended the awards ceremony, acknowledged that innovation and collaboration are vital to making the security sector a "huge new hub of job creation" for San Diego, "bringing benefit to all the regions of the world."
Roberts joined Cubic in 1997 and has served in various executive and program management positions for Cubic Defense Applications. The National Infantry Association honored him in 2001 with the Order of Saint Maurice, an award given to civilian supporters of the Infantry for significant or outstanding contributions to the Infantry. For the past two years, he has focused on leveraging the technologies, experience and capabilities of Cubic's family of companies to offer solutions for homeland security and defense, working with employees from Cubic's defense, transportation and security businesses to develop homeland security systems and services.
