SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - March 27, 2009) - Two industry analyst firms have confirmed that Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ WBSN ]) is the market share leader in the Web security and content security gateway markets due to its comprehensive portfolio of [ Web security ], [ email security ] and [ data loss prevention ] solutions that protect organizations from blended threats, Web 2.0 threats and data loss.

In the report "Corporate Web Security Market 2009 - 2013(1)," The Radicati Group says Websense leads in corporate Web security, writing: "Websense is keeping up with emerging Web threats by ensuring that Web 2.0 sites and applications are used safely. Instead of blocking complete Web sites and applications, Websense [[ Web Security Gateway ]] enables companies to block undesirable content within these applications." The report also says the Websense® product portfolio is "one of the most comprehensive suites of Web security solutions for companies of all sizes, covering all aspects of Web security -- from employee productivity, to protection from malicious traffic, to data loss prevention."

In a separate report(2), Infonetics Research, Inc. ranked Websense first in the [ content security gateway ] market for 2008. According to the report "Content Security Appliances and Software," growth in the space continues to be driven by the [ increase in blended threats ], a growing demand for "cloud-based," software as a service (Saas) offerings and tougher compliance regulations.

"One of the most significant security problems affecting companies today is the blended threat," said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst, network security at Infonetics Research. "Targeted malicious code may take advantage of third-party applications to install a back door, which then downloads and installs bot software that can then be used to distribute spam, host phishing sites or launch other attacks. This trend is driving many companies to look for a unified solution that can handle multiple kinds of threats."

All Websense solutions including Websense Web Security Gateway are powered by the [ Websense ThreatSeeker™ Network ] which continuously monitors the Internet for changes and emerging threats. The resulting intelligence is immediately incorporated into the company's Web, data and email security solutions.
