Websense, Inc.: New Research Confirms Websense Leadership in Secure Web Gateway
SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - December 8, 2008) - Websense, Inc. (
The Tolly Group's "The Web Security Challenge: A Competitive Guide to Selecting Secure Web Gateways" (Document #208326, November 2008) notes that Websense Web Security Gateway combines powerful and easy-to-manage software with the ability to mitigate dynamic Web-based threats, exceeding other vendors tested in meeting industry analyst criteria for buying Secure Web Gateways.
"The ability of a secure Web gateway to detect malicious content accurately on dynamic Web sites like Web 2.0 relies greatly on real-time analysis of content, and not just on the reputation of Web sites," said Kevin Tolly, president and chief executive officer, The Tolly Group. "While many of the products we tested excelled in one or maybe two areas, only the Websense Web Security Gateway delivered uniformly high performance and was feature-rich across all functional areas."
Key Findings:
-- In malware protection -- the Websense Web Security Gateway blocked more Internet-based threats, provided the easiest to use interface and delivered greater scalability than any of the other products tested. In fact, the nearest competitor missed eight times more Web exploits than Websense and Websense classified almost 30 percent more of the "unknown Web" than the next competitor.
-- In [ Web 2.0 ] threat detection, accuracy and effectiveness -- the Websense Web Security Gateway earned a score of 98.9 percent. The two closest competitors, McAfee's Secure Computing and Blue Coat earned 40.2 percent and 11.1 percent, respectively.
-- In [ data loss prevention (DLP) ] -- Websense was "the first vendor examined by The Tolly Group engineers to offer a fully integrated DLP option, allowing the company to offer a level of data loss prevention unmatched by rival products."
"Many of our customers ask how they can use Web 2.0 to drive their business goals; how they can say Yes to Web 2.0 without compromising security and productivity," said Leo Cole, vice president of marketing, Websense. "As confirmed by this new research, Websense is uniquely poised to help businesses adopt Web 2.0 without fear of malicious code, data loss or productivity issues."
Websense commissioned The Tolly Group to evaluate its Websense Web Security Gateway against other available gateway security products. The competing products tested were: Blue Coat Systems ProxySG 210 Appliance (with ProxyAV 510 Appliance), Cisco Systems' Iron Port S650 Web Security Appliance, Trend Micro's InterScan Web Security Suite (IWSS), and Secure Computing's Secure Web (Webwasher) Appliance. The report contains information about the testing methodology and The Tolly Group's Fair Testing Charter™ -- where The Tolly Group contacts Websense competitors and invites them to participate in the test.
