China-born biologist Zhang Feng has been awarded the United States' highest honour for technological achievement in a ceremony at the White House, alongside eight other recipients. Zhang, an MIT professor and a pioneer in gene-editing technology,


Zhang Feng, a prominent scientist born in China and now based in the U.S., has been awarded the prestigious Albany Medical Center Prize for his groundbreaking work in gene editing. This accolade, which comes with a $500,000 award, recognizes his development of the CRISPR-Cas9 technology, a revolutionary tool that allows for precise modifications to DNA, offering potential treatments for genetic diseases. Zhang, who is affiliated with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, has been instrumental in advancing the understanding and application of genome editing. His work not only promises to transform medical treatments but also has sparked ethical debates about the implications of gene editing.
