Cork student takes crown at BT Young Scientist awards

- s Markey from St. Brogan's College, Bandon, Cork won best individual for a project designed to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. He was presented the award for his work - titled 'PM-DAC: A system for removing CO2 from the atmosphere' - at a ceremony in Dublin on Friday evening.
A student from Cork, Eoin O’Mahony, has won the prestigious BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) for his project titled "Verdant: An Innovative Approach to Sustainable Agriculture." His project focuses on developing a new method to enhance crop growth and reduce the environmental impact of farming by using a biodegradable seed tape embedded with nutrients and beneficial microbes. This innovation aims to minimize the use of chemical fertilizers, reduce water usage, and improve soil health, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Eoin's work was recognized for its potential to revolutionize farming practices, earning him the top prize at the competition held in Dublin.
