R. Chidambaram, a distinguished nuclear physicist and the architect behind India's first nuclear test, Operation Smiling Buddha, passed away at the age of 88. Known for his significant contributions to India's nuclear program, Chidambaram was instrumental in the 1974 nuclear test which marked India's entry into the nuclear club. He served as the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and was a key figure in the Department of Atomic Energy. His death was mourned by many in the scientific community, with tributes highlighting his pivotal role in shaping India's strategic capabilities and his dedication to scientific research.
