  • Recalling the success achieved in 2024, Singh said there has been a series of indigenous development including India's first Indigenously developed antibiotic 'Nafithromycin' to treat both atypical and typical drug-resistant bacteria and the first ever successful trial of gene therapy for treating the blood disorder Haemophilia.

India has taken a significant step towards pharmaceutical self-reliance by developing an indigenous technology for the production of paracetamol, a widely used pain reliever and fever reducer. This development was announced by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, highlighting that the technology was developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). Previously, India was heavily dependent on China for paracetamol, with imports accounting for a significant portion of its supply. The new technology not only reduces this dependency but also positions India to potentially become a net exporter of paracetamol, enhancing its strategic autonomy in pharmaceuticals and contributing to the 'Make in India' initiative. This move is part of broader efforts to bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities in critical sectors, especially in light of global supply chain disruptions.
