Known as the architect of India's nuclear program, Chidambaram played a crucial role in the 1974 Pokhran-I nuclear test and the 1998 Pokhran-II tests, significantly advancing India's nuclear capabilities. He served as the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and was the principal scientific advisor to the Government of India. His contributions extended beyond nuclear physics into materials science, earning him numerous accolades including the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award.
