WOODBRIDGE, ON, July 21 /CNW/ - RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, has announced the introduction of a new high speed wireless WAN option for the RuggedRouter RX1000 and RX1100 series routers called RuggedCell. RuggedCell will enable users to leverage the global footprint of broadband cellular infrastructure as an alternative or complement to fiber or leased line solutions in order to connect remote sites or networks. The RuggedRouter(R) is an industrially hardened cyber security appliance with integrated router, firewall, and VPN functionality. The RX1000 can be used to establish an electronic security perimeter around critical cyber assets found in control and automation systems, in order to prevent the disruption of operations by accidental or malicious acts. Ideally suited for electric power utilities, the industrial plant floor, and traffic control systems, the RX1000 is designed to protect and secure SCADA system networks connected directly to the Internet, or within a company's Wide Area Network (WAN) or Local Area Network (LAN). The cellular option for the RuggedRouter, RuggedCell, enables users to extend network boundaries, reaching remote sites with broadband throughputs and built in quality of service. Ideal as either cost effective primary or backup connection, the router establishes an "always on" data connection and has built in capability to provide dual WAN redundancy options. The RuggedRouter is hardened to the RuggedRated(TM) specification which provides a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges typical of the harsh environments found in many industrial applications. "Harsh environments are often neglected by the traditional wireline infrastructure," commented Elik Jaeger, RuggedCom Vice President, RuggedWireless. "With the increasing throughput requirements for monitoring and control applications, many of our customers are looking for reliable remote connectivity alternatives that can provide additional throughput cost effectively. The cellular networks are now reaching a level of maturity enabling wireless data solutions to become a real viable alternative for our customer base." The RuggedRouter is now available with both HSPA and EVDO-Rev A options and is in the process of obtaining several carrier specific approvals in countries around the world. RuggedCom is currently engaged with RuggedCell in trials with major electrical utilities around the world. To learn more about RuggedCom products and technologies, please visit[ www.RuggedCom.com ]. About RuggedRated(TM): ---------------------- The RuggedRated(TM) specification establishes a set of criteria that networking and communications devices must meet in order to ensure reliable operation within harsh environments.
