SUNNYVALE, Calif.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), the technology leader in Application Delivery Networking, today announced that Jiangsu Oil Exploration Corporation of China Petrochemical Corporation (Jiangsu Oilfield) has deployed Blue Coat® ProxySG® appliances to control its Internet gateway through a combination of Web security and application acceleration and policy control. Before deploying Blue Coat appliances, the company's Internet gateway was often severely congested, typically with employees' recreational traffic, preventing important business uses of the Internet during business hours. ProxySG appliances protect against malicious threats, stop or manage unauthorized or unimportant Web applications and accelerate the delivery of acceptable content.

According to Yang Liming, Chief Engineer of Jiangsu Oilfield IT Division, by deploying Blue Coat ProxySG appliances at its Internet gateways, Jiangsu Oilfield successfully reduced bandwidth consumption by 55% and made Internet access consistently available for business use. In addition, Jiangsu Oilfield has been able to achieve compliance with regulations through the Web security provided by the appliances.

Jiangsu Oilfield has more than 20,000 employees. Frustrated by frequent slowdowns and network congestion, Jiangsu Oilfield management and network administrators suspected that much of the problem stemmed from non-business recreational Internet use by its employees. After deploying ProxySG appliances, they discovered that a large portion of bandwidth was consumed by instant messaging (IM) applications, such as MSN and QQ, as well as numerous peer-to-peer (P2P) applications. ProxySG appliances integrate transparently with Jiangsu Oilfield's authentication system, so that it can associate traffic with specific employees and apply granular policy-based controls by user/group, protocol, content type and time slot.

Jiangsu Oilfield, affiliated with China Petrochemical Corporation, is a large state-owned company involved in oil, gas exploration & development, production, processing and distribution across different regions and industries. Since economic globalization and the worldwide dynamics of the petrochemical industry are important factors for its business success, Jiangsu Oilfield IT Division relies on its Internet gateway for important business processes.

"Blue Coat ProxySG appliances combine visibility, acceleration and security to provide a complete Secure Web Gateway solution for managing enterprise Internet gateways," said Matt Young, vice president, Asia Pacific region, Blue Coat Systems. "Our ProxySG appliances restored the flow of Internet business communications and applications for Jiangsu Oilfield, while giving them the ability to manage future demands and challenges."
