Tue, January 27, 2009 Opnext Introduces Red Laser Diode; Accelerates Commercialization of Miniature Display Market
TOKYO & EATONTOWN, N.J.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ:OPXT), a global leader in state-of-the-art laser technology, today announced the availability of the HL6388MG laser diode for use in miniature display applications. This new laser diode expands Opnext's addressable market by accelerating the commercialization of the miniature display market. The new diode has excellent color reproducibility because of its high monochromacity and can be built into next generation miniature display systems, including those in personal computers, mobile phones and other mobile equipment, making it possible to get an image of information anytime, anywhere.

This 5.6mm small packaged laser diode with multimodal distribution and multilasing wavelength spectrum allows for 250mW continuous wave operation. The HL6388MG incorporates a smaller φ5.6mm package while still retaining the high reliability of the product. The output power of the laser diode has been aggressively developed in order to achieve an upgraded image brightness for display applications.
