IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2009) - Lantronix, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ LTRX ]), a leading provider of secure, remote device networking and data center management technologies, today announced that Mitsubishi Electric, a leading manufacturer of theater and data projector products, has selected Lantronix' award-winning XPort embedded networking connectivity module to further provide remote management and monitoring capabilities for its high volume projectors. Already using XPort to provide networking capability for its high-end DLP projectors, Mitsubishi has recognized the benefits the solution can also add to its lower cost, higher volume line of projectors. XPort enables serial-based devices to communicate over a local area network/wide area network (LAN/WAN) or the Internet. XPort allows Mitsubishi customers to access, monitor and control equipment from any location via the Internet, providing an unprecedented level of real-time business intelligence.

In Mitsubishi's case, a custom software program, ProjectorView™ control system, was developed to easily display the status of each projector. Utilizing XPort's built-in Web server, a remote user is able to access the ProjectorView screen via their PC browser. This allows for proactive monitoring of each projector's performance, including its lamp and internal temperature, how long the lamp has been running, last maintenance and installation data in real-time. In addition, ProjectorView allows each customer's maintenance personnel to remotely operate fundamental functions of each projector over the Internet.

The system can easily diagnose the status of each projector and should any problem be detected, an e-mail notification can be sent directly to each customer's service personnel, instantly alerting them to problems, such as projector overheating, lamp life expiration or command errors. When required, service calls are more efficient because the nature of the problem is known when the technician is dispatched, reducing the need for multiple visits. XPort allows each customer's service personnel to greatly reduce the amount of on-site visits, cut maintenance and repair costs and provide better overall customer service.

Lantronix XPort is the industry's most compact, integrated embedded device server and network processing module, which provides manufacturers the ability to easily design Ethernet or IP networking capabilities into virtually any device with a serial interface. In a package slightly bigger than an RJ45 jack, XPort incorporates all the essential hardware and software in a single solution and optionally provides AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption for secure standard communications. XPort allows OEMs to securely and cost-effectively embed networking capabilities into a wide variety of products, instantly increasing product value, enhancing the end-user experience and facilitating new service delivery options.

"We are very pleased to extend our business with Mitsubishi. XPort will help Mitsubishi provide an integrated solution that allows them to quickly and easily build network connectivity into their end solutions, while reducing engineering risks and costs," said Jerry Chase, CEO for Lantronix. "Our partnership with Mitsubishi is a validation of Lantronix' solutions and the benefits companies can realize by utilizing machine-to-machine communications."
