FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - July 8, 2009) - Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: [ NWK ]), a leading innovator in VoIP technologies, announced today that it has become one of the first gateway partners to complete the required interoperability testing of NET's VX Series gateways with IBM Sametime Unified Telephony. The interoperability between Sametime Unified Telephony and the NET VX1200 brings service providers and customers more flexibility when it comes to deploying unified communications (UC) and collaboration solutions.

VX Series unified communications gateways provide flexible "any-to-any" connectivity, robust call routing functions, enterprise directory integration, and the granular control of messaging parameters necessary to accommodate complex customer configurations. In addition to essential features such as SIP registration for WiFi clients and embedded QoS mechanisms, the VX Series offers simplified connectivity to both PSTN and external IP telephony service providers using digital and analog interfaces, giving the customer optimum flexibility for reducing costs.

"With Sametime Unified Telephony, we are collaborating with our partners to increase the value of Sametime to our clients across numerous devices as well as legacy and new telephony infrastructures," said Akiba Saeedi, Director, Unified Communications and Collaboration Software, IBM. "Completing interoperability testing with Sametime is a critical step in this process."

"Large enterprises are adopting UC to improve productivity and reduce management complexity. The combination of VX gateways with IBM Sametime Unified Telephony allows enterprises to embrace a UC model while ensuring quality and reliability," said Matthew D. Krueger, Vice President of Corporate Marketing & Business Development at NET. "We support IBM's migration strategies for its customers to ease the transition from traditional to pure IP voice transport. NET's intelligent VoIP switches and gateways help make that transition reliable and affordable."

"Our innovative VoIP technology and intelligent gateways support IBM's vision for making this a reality," added Krueger. "We will continue to work closely with IBM to empower workforces with real-time communications capabilities that allow for communications virtually anytime, anywhere, on any device. UC provides enterprise customers with significant long-term value. Employee productivity is substantially increased since the solution enables efficient communications across different applications. NET's intelligent switches and gateways connect IBM's next-generation communications to the existing enterprise infrastructure."
