  • Two space missions reached their conclusion: one with a splashdown, the other with a quiet lunar death. And thrilling new studies expand our cosmic understanding.

The article from MSN discusses how NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley, who were launched into space on May 30, 2020, aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, faced an unexpected delay in their return to Earth due to weather conditions. Initially planned to return in early August, their mission was extended due to the need for more time to prepare for the next crewed mission and to ensure safe re-entry conditions. Their spacecraft, named Endeavour, undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) on August 1, 2020, but their splashdown was postponed multiple times because of high winds and rough seas in the potential landing zones off the coast of Florida. Finally, on August 2, 2020, after a successful re-entry, they safely splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico, marking the end of NASA's first crewed mission to the ISS from U.S. soil since the retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2011. This mission not only demonstrated the capabilities of SpaceX's Crew Dragon but also highlighted the complexities and unpredictability of space travel.
