PARIS--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ MRV COMMUNICATIONS ], INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products, announced that several of its [ OptiSwitch ]® line of Carrier Ethernet demarcation and aggregation devices demonstrated interoperability as part of the [ MPLS and Ethernet World Congress ] Multi-Vendor Interoperability Event, organized by the [ European Advanced Networking Test Center ] (EANTC).

MRV's participation in the multi-vendor demonstration highlights T-MPLS service as part of its carrier Ethernet and packet optical transport system (P-OTS) strategy. Additionally, the company is showcasing its capabilities in [ circuit emulation services ] in the radio access network, resiliency based on MPLS fast reroute, packet-based E-Tree backhaul service and Ethernet operations, administration and management (OAM) tools to maintain and measure SLAs—all of which enable mobile operators to offer differentiated services portfolios that scale to all network scenarios and topologies along significant reduction of operational expenses.

All MRV optical solutions will be on display in the Interoperability Showcase for the duration of the show.

"The OptiSwitch's favorable results in the EANTC interoperability demonstration show that MRV's carrier-class Carrier Ethernet and P-OTS solutions can play in any network environment," said Noam Lotan, CEO of MRV Communications. "Our consistency at EANTC interoperability events over the past four years demonstrates the standard-based implementation that helps simplify the transition to next-generation Carrier Ethernet networks."

"As an independent test lab, we strive to help participating vendors validate their implementations, to progress the adoption and implementation of standards and to find interoperable solutions to real-world problems faced by network operators," said Carsten Rossenhoevel, managing director of the EANTC. "These combined forces contributed to the test plan direction, which took a holistic view of modern packet networks offering even more services."

Interoperability Results

In the hot staging event in preparation for the showcase at MPLS and Ethernet World Congress in Paris, MRV's [ OptiSwitch OS9024M-210 ] aggregation switch demonstrated interoperability with other leading vendors for service protection in a first-mile with MPLS Fast Reroute and end-to-end transport connectivity. MRV also participated in the creation of point-to-multipoint E-Tree services according to a [ Metro Ethernet Forum ] (MEF) specification of Ethernet Service Definitions, Phase 2.

The demonstration also involved the [ OptiSwitch 904 ] intelligent demarcation device as part of an E-Tree service that facilitated point-to-multipoint service to all MPLS and Transport MPLS spanning domains. This type of point-to-multipoint service could be used to transport services such as mobile backhaul from a regional network center (RNC) to cell sites, for example from an IPTV video head-end to customers, or for backhaul from DSLAM to DSL customers.

Additionally, MRV's [ OptiSwitch 910-M ] successfully completed several circuit emulation tests using the MEF-8 specification to encapsulate both structured and unstructured TDM traffic arriving at an E1/T1 interface over a packet-switched network (PSN). The emulated circuit used a standard transport service across the PSN, demonstrating full compliance and interoperability with other vendors according to RFC4553 (SAToP), MEF-8 (CESoETH), and RFC5086 (CESoPSN).

Native Ethernet fault management and measurements are essential for delivery of high-quality end-to-end services to business customers and mobile stations. MRV successfully interoperated with other test partners, demonstrating standard-based performance measurement (ITU-T Y.1731- delay measurements).

MRV's carrier Ethernet and optical solutions will be on display in booth 118.
