Enhancing Developer Productivity

  • Oracle JDeveloper, the premier Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for enterprise Java and SOA, has over 500 planned new features and significant performance improvements, including:
    • Added support for: Maven, JavaScript Object Notation Language (JSON), Facelets, UML 2.0 and Eclipse key mappings;
    • New Oracle ADF Mobile Client, supporting native development for BlackBerry and Windows mobile applications;
    • Oracle JDeveloper Task connector and BugZilla connector for the Oracle Team Productivity Center;
    • Three-way merge for offline database definitions;
    • Improved HTTP analyzer with support for RESTful services and WS-Policy;
    • New log file analyzer; and,
    • New visual editors for Oracle ADF contextual events.


  • Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) is an end-to-end meta-framework for the Java EE platform that enables developers to build rich enterprise applications. Planned highlights of the new release include:
    • New user interface (UI) components: Carousel -- for displaying collections of data using an interface that will be very familiar to ITunes users; auto-suggest -- for enhanced searching capabilities; Spark chart -- new chart type, commandImageLink -- to simplify page design; contextual information -- used for providing additional information in the user interface without clutter or confusing the user, and emailable page formatting;
    • All-new look and feel for the ADF Faces components, providing a cleaner and more modern-looking user interface;
    • Many improvements to existing UI components, including a simplification of the drag-and-drop framework and enhancements to the rich text editor and calendar components;
    • Improvements to the bean data control used for POJOs and EJBs, which support page ranging, query and sorting, significantly reducing the amount of coding required;
    • Debugger improvements; and,
    • New animations for graphs and other UI components.


  • Oracle WebCenter Suite enables both developers and business users to build, deploy and evolve next-generation composite applications and portals. Planned new features intended to help developers include:
    • The ability to embed communities, team sites, and Enterprise 2.0 services like tagging, linking, discussions, and presence directly in their Oracle ADF applications and deliver any look and feel leveraging JSF Skins and Oracle Metadata Services;
    • An updated REST architecture and APIs that allow rich Enterprise 2.0 services to be integrated with any type of application, website, or language like Java, .NET, PHP, Perl, and Ruby;
    • Content Presenter, a set of pre-packaged templates and tight integration with Oracle Universal Content Management that enables business users to personalize how content is displayed in their websites or portals without requiring developer resources; and,
    • Tighter integration with common desktop productivity and collaboration platforms, such as Oracle Beehive and Microsoft Exchange.


  • Oracle WebLogic Suite forms the foundation for enterprise software infrastructure. It helps enable enterprises to outperform their competitors with the best performance and lowest operational costs. Planned in this new release of Oracle WebLogic Suite:
    • Oracle TopLink® Grid -- to allow tight integration with Oracle Coherence, marrying the standardization and simplicity of application development using the Java Persistence API (JPA) with the scalability and distributed processing power of Oracle's Coherence Data Grid;
    • Oracle WebLogic SmartUpgrade -- to provide targeted insight and automation capabilities which allow for a systematic and efficient upgrade of your Java EE applications to WebLogic Server;
    • A preview of native Oracle WebLogic Server SCA support will be demonstrated at OpenWorld showing upward compatibility with SCA support in Oracle SOA Suite. Oracle WebLogic Server SCA is intended to provide developers with the ability to use plain Java classes for their business logic, assemble them into SOA composites and deploy them to Oracle WebLogic Server.


  • Oracle SOA Suite is an integrated, best-of-breed suite of products that helps developers rapidly design, assemble, deploy and manage highly agile and adaptable business applications. This planned release of SOA Suite features:
    • Monitor Express Dashboards: to enable developers to generate Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) dashboards for their composite applications in a couple of clicks, right from within Oracle JDeveloper. These ready-to-use dashboards are intended to provide a single integrated view to track Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in real-time and promote operational efficiency;
    • Web-based SOA Composer: to allow business analysts to quickly address business changes, using their favorite web browser. Users would be able to modify business rules exposed by the applications and which impact application logic in near-real time, without having to redeploy the entire application;
    • Streamlined Human Workflow task editor: with developer productivity in mind, the Human Workflow task editor is intended to be streamlined to a simple and efficient tabular format;
    • Planned new certifications: committed to hot-pluggability and interoperability and adding to a long list of currently supported browsers, planned new certifications include: Apple Safari, Microsoft SQL, IBM MQ 7.0 and Internet Explorer 8; and,
    • BAM Data Control for Oracle ADF: with the planned new BAM data control, Oracle ADF developers could build highly dynamic web-based applications that embed business information pushed in real-time from the Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) servers.
