MALVERN, PA--(Marketwire - September 3, 2009) - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: [ VSH ]) today announced that its TrenchFET® Gen III power MOSFET technology is a finalist in the E-Legacy Awards competition being held by Electronic Product Design magazine.

TrenchFET Gen III power MOSFET technology, which helps to reduce energy consumption in systems ranging from notebook computers to server farms, is among the finalists in the Investment in the Environment category. Other award categories included Environmental Design, Medical Advances, Security, Sustainability, and Investment in Education. Winners will be determined by votes submitted at the magazine's Web site at [ http://www.epdonthenet.net/awards_vote.aspx ].

TrenchFET Gen III is the latest in a series of low-on-resistance power MOSFET silicon technologies introduced by Vishay Siliconix. With this third generation of Vishay Siliconix trench technology, Vishay is once again raising the bar for on-resistance performance and, with its TurboFET® products, for switching performance in dc-to-dc converters.

The low on-resistance of TrenchFET Gen III power MOSFETs reduces conduction losses, which means that less energy is wasted as heat when the MOSFET is in the on state. TurboFET technology adds to their energy-saving capability with a charge-balanced drain structure that reduces losses when the MOSFET is switching on and off. For high-side MOSFETs in dc-to-dc converters, the lower gate charge of TurboFET translates into more efficient switching, enabling less power to be wasted in notebook computers, voltage regulator modules (VRMs), servers, and other systems using point-of-load (POL) power conversion. It also gives the designer the option to operate at higher frequencies, which enables the use of smaller passive components.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., a Fortune 1,000 Company listed on the NYSE (VSH), is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, rectifiers, MOSFETs, optoelectronics, and selected ICs) and passive electronic components (resistors, capacitors, inductors, sensors, and transducers). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Its product innovations, successful acquisition strategy, and "one-stop shop" service have made Vishay a global industry leader. Vishay can be found on the Internet at [ http://www.vishay.com ].
