Nortel and LG-Nortel: LG-Nortel Demonstrates WDM-PON Momentum at Broadband World Forum Europe
SEOUL, KOREA--(Marketwire - Sept. 3, 2009) - At Broadband World Forum Europe in Paris, France LG-Nortel (a joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel(1) (OTCBB:NRTLQ)) will demonstrate technology innovations and announce new collaborations to address the seemingly insatiable global appetite for more bandwidth for advanced business and residential applications while addressing the issue of the access bottleneck. LG-Nortel solutions will help meet rapidly growing demand for fiber-optic access solutions as carriers increasingly roll out fibre-to-the-business/home/basestation (FTTx) services to residential and business customers.
These advances will help LG-Nortel tap into the multi billion dollar market potential for passive optical networking (PON) and FTTH equipment. According to market research consulting firm Infonetics in their June 4, 2009, PON and FTTH Equipment and Subscribers report, worldwide PON revenue is expected to increase from US$1.9B in 2008 to $4.6B by 2013, representing a 2008-2013 CAGR of 20%.
The LG-Nortel Stand #309 will showcase an updated portfolio of Ethernet Access solutions that enable service providers to unlock the potential of their existing fiber networks, add capacity without complexity, and help satisfy consumer appetites for higher bandwidth. WDM-PON allows service providers to deliver new applications and services while at the same time enabling them to build a foundational infrastructure capable of carrying business, residential and mobile backhaul all on the same network. The live demonstrations of WDM-POM next generation access technologies will include 1Gbps to the home/business showing on-line gaming, triple play, home PC on-line data backup, high-definition video surveillance, Mobile backhaul and many more business and residential applications.
"The ready availability of high bandwidth is key for advanced business applications such as video conferencing and data backup as well as ultra broadband residential services," said Giovanni Manto, general manager, Ethernet Fiber Access, LG-Nortel.
Introducing Ethernet Access 1100 Solution, Release 4.0. Broadband Word Forum Europe will be the setting for the first public demonstration of Release 4.0 of LG-Nortel's Ethernet Access 1100 solution which uses WDM-PON technology to deliver symmetrical high bandwidth up to 1Gbps to the end user and provides secure access for high performance business, residential and wireless backhaul applications.
For operators, Release 4.0 gives the flexibility to mix 1Gbps and 100Mbps on the same fiber structure enabling a smooth transition to fiber-based services such as triple plays, while maintaining existing revenue streams. It also helps operators serve businesses such as finance, government and research facilities that need highly secure bandwidth.
