Intellon HomePlug AV ICs Embedded in ZyXEL Powerline Networking Kits for Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan?s Largest Telco
ORLANDO, Fla.--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Intellon Corporation ] (Nasdaq:ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, today announced that Intellon HomePlug ICs are embedded in ZyXEL powerline networking kits to be supplied to Chunghwa Telecom's Digital Home project, under a procurement tender recently won by ZyXEL.
ZyXEL Communications, a leading broadband access solutions provider, has been a frequent winner of CHT's Central Office and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) tenders. The company fields a broad array of equipment and Intellon ICs are used in ZyXEL HomePlug-based powerline solutions.
ZyXEL's powerline network kits for Chunghwa will use Intellon's newest HomePlug AV-based IC, the INT6400. The kits will enable users to link their Internet connection to convenient locations anywhere within the home to watch Chunghwa Telecom's Media-on-Demand (MOD) programs at their leisure. The INT6400-based powerline adapters have superior performance, lower power and higher immunity to noise, important parameters for IPTV and movie-on-demand services.
"Worldwide demand for powerline communications is rising and we expect this technology to play a dominant role in the no-new-wire networking arena," said Chinru Lin, Assistant VP of ZyXEL Digital Home Sales Business Unit. "The powerline solution is fast, easy-to-use and will add a fat pipe for streaming multimedia video into homes. With the successful powerline deployment in CHT's MOD project, we are confident that the cooperative model and experience obtained will benefit other worldwide digital home-related projects."
"Internet-based video-on-demand services require a reliable, high-bandwidth, wired connection to move high quality video from one room to another with no new wires," said Rick Furtney, president and COO of Intellon Corporation. "Intellon is pleased to provide the industry-leading ICs used in ZyXEL's broad array of powerline networking products."
