T-Mobile Germany Selects Tekelec for Mobile Number Portability Technology
BARCELONA, Spain--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--[ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: TKLC), the network signaling, mobile messaging and performance management company, has won T-Mobile Germany's mobile number portability signaling relay function (MNP-SRF) business. With the agreement, Tekelec expands its footprint within Germany's largest operator and replaces T-Mobile Germany's existing MNP-SRF solution.
Tekelec's core network platform, the [ EAGLE® 5 ], manages signaling system 7 (SS7) traffic and SS7 over Internet Protocol (IP), or SIGTRAN, traffic for T-Mobile Germany, T-Mobile U.K. and T-Mobile Netherlands. The platform also supports several applications beyond signaling, such as MNP-SRF, short message routing, HLR and voicemail server routing, gateway functionality, and integrated data acquisition.
Operators in Western Europe and North America are starting to replace existing number portability (NP) technology with [ new NP systems ] to better manage subscriber growth, reduce costs and handle increased signaling traffic. German mobile operators introduced MNP in 2002, and Tekelec brings improved reliability and quicker performance for T-Mobile Germany's 39.1 million subscribers.
"Tekelec provides the synergy between signaling and number portability solutions that gives operators new levels of efficiency and savings," said Wolrad Claudy, Tekelec's senior vice president of global sales. "We are grateful for the opportunity to extend our relationship with T-Mobile and our market-leading number portability offering."
"We chose Tekelec because of its mature, market-leading number portability technology and its easy integration with our signaling platform," said Guido Menzel, T-Mobile Germany's executive vice president of core networks and service management. "Tekelec has provided several T-Mobile operators with superior signaling performance, streamlined operations and reduced costs over many years."
According to the Number Portability Research Note to be published later this month by industry research and consultancy firm Analysys Mason, Tekelec is the global leader for real-time connection number portability (NP) solutions, with 35 percent market share. Tekelec deployed the first integrated NP solution in 1997 with Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), and today has 79 NP customers in 28 countries. Its number portability solutions support voice, SMS, MMS and pre-paid calls, and cover GSM, CDMA, fixed networks, and cable, as well as intra-carrier number retention. Tekelec will complete deployment of T-Mobile Germany's MNP-SRF capability in early 2009.
