Tekelec Features Next Gen Signaling, Performance Management and SMS Network Solutions at Mobile World Congress 2009
BARCELONA, Spain--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--At Mobile World Congress 2009, [ Tekelec ] (NASDAQ: TKLC) will showcase network signaling, mobile messaging and performance management solutions that enable operators to deploy and monitor hybrid and next generation networks (NGNs), reduce capex and opex, and identify new revenue streams. Tekelec's offerings will provide operators with strategies to:
- Manage and monitor signaling traffic
- Streamline architecture for more efficient and secure SMS networks
- Pace the evolution to Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks
At the company's stand, 1F44 in Hall 1, Tekelec will:
Debut the EAGLE® XG, the New Signaling, Session Control and Database Application Platform
Announced last week, the [ EAGLE® XG ] platform supports a converged subscriber routing database and multiple signaling protocols – including [ session initiation protocol (SIP) ] and signaling system 7 (SS7) over IP (SIGTRAN) – enabling operators to run multiple applications in a hybrid network operating environment. This architecture gives operators the flexibility and scalability to meet subscriber growth and evolving consumer needs, along with the reliability to provide uninterrupted service while expanding signaling capabilities.
Further, Tekelec's EAGLE XG leverages operators' existing investments, including Tekelec's market-share leading [ EAGLE 5 ], to reduce capex and opex, maximize operators' return on current technology, and enable a gradual transition to IMS. The platform is a natural evolution of the EAGLE 5, which was chosen by 37 of Tekelec's 40 new customers over the past two years. The EAGLE XG will be on display at Tekelec's stand and will host several applications that can be deployed individually or together:
- [ SIP Signaling Router (SSR) ] provides a hierarchical SIP signaling and session control framework for the NGN core – something that is lacking today
- [ Call Session Control Function (CSCF) ] provides SIP signaling and session control for IMS services, and is a software upgrade to the SSR
- [ Service Broker ] bridges intelligent network (IN) and SIP technologies by providing interaction between SS7 and SIP-based platforms
- Home location register (HLR) Router allows operators to flexibly allocate numbers across multiple HLRs in the network, enabling each database to be fully utilized
"Network complexity is increasing exponentially with new services, new subscribers and new devices," said Ron de Lange, executive vice president at Tekelec. "The EAGLE XG gives service providers the framework to simplify and streamline hybrid network architectures, cutting costs while maintaining and expanding service."
Demonstrate Performance Management Capabilities
Tekelec will show several wireless network demonstrations for [ Integrated Applications Solution (IAS) ], the platform that captures and analyzes network traffic:
- Troubleshooting under-performing portions of the network to rapidly find and resolve service issues
- Alarm capabilities triggered by suspect call patterns or subscriber usage or other real-time network events, minimizing revenue loss and service interruptions
- Traffic management [ key performance indicators (KPIs) ] calculating relevant statistics and performance data in real time on user-defined criteria
IAS, installed in more than 150 customer networks, integrates with Tekelec's EAGLE 5 signaling platform to gather real-time and historical traffic data on network performance, quality of service and customer experience. IAS provides KPI reports for traffic management, security management, roaming, SMS, and prepaid services by handling 65 protocols across six over-the-air interfaces spanning 2G, 2.5G and 3G systems.
Manage the SMS Network and Evolve to 3G Messaging
Tekelec's [ Mobile Messaging Product Family ], deployed to 48 customers in 38 countries, gives operators a more flexible and cost-effective approach than the legacy short message service center (SMSC), along with new security and revenue-generating opportunities. The company's vision for the SMS network includes an [ SMS Router ] to lower message storage and delivery costs, an [ SMS Firewall ] to block mobile spam, and an [ Advertising Insertion Center ] to give operators the ability to include opt-in advertisements in unused characters of subscribers' text messages. Tekelec's combination of mobile messaging and SIP expertise also ensures that solutions will span both traditional SS7-based TDM, or 2G, networks and SIP-based IP, or third generation ("3G") networks.
