SAN DIEGO--([ BUSINESS WIRE ])--Ambient Corporation (OTCBB: ABTG) announced today from Distributech 2009 the expansion of its business development department to meet the increasing interest and opportunities in deploying smart grid systems.

Ambient's new Vice President of Business Development, Douglas T. McMurray, will be working closely with President and CEO John J. Joyce and CTO Ram Rao, in developing Ambient's strategy for introducing the next generation of Ambient developed smart grid technology to North American utilities. With the recent increase in national awareness for the need to deploy smart grid technology, evidenced by the favorable smart grid legislation at both the federal and state levels, Ambient chose this time to strengthen the management team for the purpose of increasing awareness of its products and services within the utility industry.

Mr. McMurray has over fifteen years of experience and industry knowledge in the telecommunications and utility sectors. Most recently, Mr. McMurray served as the Director of Business Development for PacketFront, a world leader in automating and managing the delivery of multiple-services over an IP network, where he had the primary responsibility of developing and leading the company in various fiber strategies for North America. Earlier in his career, Mr. McMurray, as an entrepreneur, launched a successful Internet service provider, later selling the company to a subsidiary of IDACORP (NYSE: IDA), a holding company comprised of Idaho Power Company, a regulated electric utility.

Additionally, Ambient has promoted Mr. Jay Ganson to Manager, Business Development and Environmental Affairs, working directly with Mr. McMurray. Mr. Ganson has been with the Company for four years and represents Ambient on many industry organizations. This internal move builds upon his background in environmental management, and previous position tracking key players and keeping the Company abreast of legislative policy within the smart grid industry.

Today's announcement represents a further indication of Ambient's growing strength in the evolving smart grid market. In addition to Mr. McMurray, the Ambient team has seen growth in both engineering and manufacturing as Ambient develops and brings to market one of the most flexible smart grid communication platforms available to the market.

Mr. Joyce stated, "We are pleased to have Doug join the management team at this time. His experience will compliment our existing management team and enable Ambient to increase focus on, and develop, commercial opportunities in 2009 and beyond."

Please come visit us at Verizon Wireless' booth at Distributech, February 3rd to the 5th to see Ambient's newest communications node, the X-3000 and speak to the Company.
